At BakeMyBrain.online, our mission is to empower beginner-level culinary learners with strong English communication skills so that they can confidently succeed in both practical cookery tasks and professional settings. Our Vision
To be the leading platform that empowers beginner-level culinary learners with English language skills, enabling them to communicate confidently, excel in their vocational training, and thrive in both local and global culinary industries.
Who We Are
Vocational Training Authority (VTA):
The main body in Sri Lanka that oversees vocational training courses, including NVQ and non-NVQ cookery, hospitality, food and beverage services, etc. (course.vta.lk)
Vocational Training Authority (VTA) Cookery:
A practical course offered by the Vocational Training Authority (VTA) that equips learners with essential cooking skills, food preparation techniques, and kitchen safety for both domestic and professional settings.
Functional English for Professional Cookery:
This course is designed to develop essential English language skills required in culinary settings. It focuses on kitchen-related communication, reading recipes, giving instructions, safety vocabulary, and interacting effectively in a professional cookery environment.
DELT (Department of English Language Teaching):
The DELT at the University of Kelaniya provides English language support to students across all faculties. It offers specialized courses aimed at enhancing academic, professional, and communicative competence in English.
Academic Staff:
Our academic staff consists of qualified and experienced lecturers from the DELT who are committed to providing effective, learner-centered English instruction tailored to vocational and academic needs.
BakeMyBrain.online:
An online learning platform developed specially for cookery students under VTA to provide English lessons tailored to their trade: recipe-language, kitchen safety instructions, customer interactions, etc.
Our Panel

Pawani Nananayakkara
She is a Professional Course Designer with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, or a related field, and holds a postgraduate qualification in Curriculum Development or TESL as an added advantage, with valuable experience in vocational or language education.

Zainab Fouz
She is a Co-ordinator with a Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a relevant discipline, complemented by a postgraduate qualification or diploma in Education or Management, and is equipped with strong organizational and communication skills.

Wathsala Senevirathna
She is an Instructor with a Bachelor’s degree in English, TESL, or Education, supported by a diploma or certificate in Teaching English or Vocational Training, and enriched by teaching experience in vocational contexts.

Amandi Kehelwaththa
She is a Technical Officer with NVQ Level 4 or an equivalent qualification in IT, Multimedia, or Technical Support, with additional training in LMS tools and educational technology as an advantage, and experience in supporting educational environments.
